I oversaw the creation of this set entirely from scratch. Although the sequence it was designed for was ultimately cut from the final film, the project provided invaluable experience in building a fully realized environment from the ground up.
My task was to design a setting that conveyed a sense of lifelessness—abandoned and desolate. Working closely with the Art Director assigned to this environment, I was provided with a ground plan, storyboards, any available concept art, plant references, and real-world location imagery. From there, we adapted the vision to meet the creative requirements of the Production Designer.
The process involved daily check-ins with the Art Director and weekly reviews with the Production Designer. Once the Production Designer approved the environment, I prepared the set for export into our virtual stage project. This allowed the Director, Director of Photography, Production Designer, and other key crew members to enter the set virtually—scouting locations, setting up shots, exploring lighting scenarios, and identifying areas for further refinement.
